I could not be more excited to be participating in the AIFS study abroad program in Florence this summer.
This program allows me to completely immerse myself in a new culture and way of life that is so different from Texas.
I leave this coming Sunday and will have the opportunity to spend a few days in Rome before heading to Florence for my study abroad experience! As a person with an Italian background, I have always wanted to spend an extended period of time in Italy. I have been lucky enough to travel to Italy several times, but I am thrilled to be living in Florence and truly experiencing the Italian way of life.
I am a corporate communication studies major, meaning I study how people interact, communicate with one another, and work together. Part of understanding communication is exploring world cultures and how culture impacts communication. It is understood within the field of communication that the best way to study culture is to be immersed in that culture. For this reason, I have always been interested in understanding various groups and living among cultures different than my own. Florence is such a unique and vibrant city with so much to offer travelers.
I hope that by living in Florence I will not only have a better understanding of the Italian way of life but I will also have challenged myself to meet new people, experience new things, and appreciate a way of life that is different from my own. I cannot wait to begin this adventure and am truly thrilled to head to Italy in just a few days!
