I think it is safe to say that my experience here is a little different than the typical study abroad experience.
Why? The reason my experience is a little different is because on top of taking classes and traveling around Europe, I go to work Monday through Thursday from 9 am to 5 pm.
There are two reason I chose to study abroad in London and participate in the internship program.
1) I chose London as the destination because my family moved here about two years ago! We moved across the pond from our house in sunny California for a new adventure. I am fortunate enough to still attend my university back in the States still so choosing London allowed me to be in the same time zone as my family. Now I get to see them more than twice a year, and nothing beats a home cooked meal by my mom.
2) I chose the internship program because I wanted to do something different than go to our school campus in Italy with 150 people from my school. How many people can say they interned at a company in London?! (Talk about a résumé booster!)
I study Applied Communications with a minor in Advertising and I am working at an international communications and PR firm in Convent Garden for the next six weeks. I have been there for two weeks so far and I am really enjoying the experience. The AIFS program was extremely helpful with finding everyone in my program an internship. They matched everyone with a company that relates to what they are studying and everyone is very pleased with their placement!
I look forward to sharing my experiences with you, in and out of the work place!
