AIFS Study Abroad Blog

Spotlight on Brazil

With the World Cup starting today and all eyes on Brazil, we want you to get know the largest country in South America. And it isn’t all about soccer! AIFS features programs during the summer, fall and spring in Sao Paulo, the largest city in Brazil.

Students take classes at Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado (FAAP), which started as a foundation designed to support and foster fine arts. As Brazil becomes a leader in South America both politically and economically, being able to do business in Brazil and speak Portuguese is an amazing asset and résumé builder. We offer Portuguese language courses and economics courses like Doing Business in BrazilBrazil in the BRICS and Environmental Studies.

Besides typical class activities, students have participated in the “Festa Junina” – the annual Brazilian celebration and Brazilian cooking classes. Student blogger Dylan got to dress up and participate in the celebration last year!

You will also visit Juquehy Beach, Santos (the biggest seaport in Latin America and the colorful colonial town of Embu das Artes. And you won’t want to miss an optional excursion to Rio de Janeiro.

Our staff also organizes a lot of activities as well. Brazilian dance classes, capoeira classes (a Brazilian martial art that is a combination of dance and acrobatics) and soccer classes to name a few.  Don’t worry you can always go to the beach as well!

From the modern architecture to the street art scene, São Paulo is a hidden gem.

Did you know that São Paulo is considered one of the world’s best food cities? From gourmet restaurants, to Sunday food fairs, São Paulo is a big, diverse city that rivals Europe with its inventive cuisine.
