The Gilman Scholarship is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State and aims to diversify the study abroad student body, as well as the locations in which students study. Applicants must study at a two- or four-year college/university and be a Pell Grant recipient in order to be eligible.
Hundreds of Gilman Scholarships of up to $5,000 are awarded each year. Students are especially encouraged to apply if they have financial hardship, attend community college, are from diverse ethnic backgrounds, or study in under-represented fields such as the sciences.
AIFS also offers Gilman Scholars who study abroad on our programs an additional Gilman Scholarship Bonus of $500 for semester programs or $250 for summer programs.
We urge any students who are eligible for the Gilman Scholarship to apply, as it’s a great source of funding for students who need extra financial support. Learn more about the Gilman Scholarship at www.iie.org/Programs/Gilman-Scholarship-Program.
