London, Orientation, and the First Days in Florence

It is hard to believe that I have been out of the United States for almost two weeks. Our trips to London and Marina de Pietrasanta were incredible. In London, the highlight for me was the bus/walking tour. We learned so much about the city and it’s main attractions. We saw Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, the London Bridge, and so much more.

During our time in the beach town of Marina de Pietrasanta, AIFS provided a great orientation with incredible trips around Italy. It was so wonderful to explore the country before arriving here in Florence. We visited Pisa, Lucca, the Apuan Alps, and Cinque Terre. Each place was different and beautiful in it’s own way. Italian architecture instantly captivates you; I felt myself constantly grabbing my camera to snap another photograph of a church or palace.

The AIFS staff is so unbelievably friendly and helfpul. I did not know what to expect coming into this program. I didn’t know if I would feel comfortable or have so many unanswered questions. This has not been the case. I love it here. Florence is the most beautiful place in the world and it’s only been 48 hours since my arrival. I live in Piazza Santo Spirito, right in the middle of the square. I walk out of my apartment and there is fresh produce markets, a panini restaurant, a pizza restaurant, a church, benches to sit on and take in the day, and so much more.

I can’t wait to make Florence my home. Today we had our first day of classes and all of the teachers were so wonderful. I am so excited to learn about the history of the Italian Mafia, to learn about Italian Marketing in Fashion, to study Italian Literature, and to learn the Italian Language!

More to come!
