Hampi is a great location if you are seeking to travel on your own or with a small group of other students. Hampi is a village in northern Karnataka state. It is located within the ruins of Vijayanagara, the former capital of the Vijayanagara Empire. This place is the epitome of relaxation. The locals are friendly, the food is some of the best south-Indian cuisine I have ever tasted, and the overall vibe of Hampi is very shanthi (which means peace, rest, calmness, tranquility, or bliss.)
You can spend the day visiting all the ruins and temples. The extant monuments of Vijayanagara or Hampi can be divided into religious, civil and military buildings. Spend the day meditating, overlooking fields of rice patties, or if you are feeling adventurous, rent a scooter for the day, visit a cliff point and dive into the lake, or walk up over 600 steps to the monkey temple!
