We’ve added an exciting new academic partnership for 2016-2017 in Barcelona. Starting spring 2016, AIFS is offering academic programs through the Universidad Pompeu Fabra. Founded in 1990, Universidad Pompeu Fabra (UPF) is a young, modern, public university. It is the highest ranked university in Spain, and the 15th in Europe according to U-multirank, the ranking system developed by the European Union.
Universidad Pompeu Fabra (UPF)
In addition to our Spanish Language, Liberal Arts and Business Program at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), students will now also have the opportunity to choose from a European Studies Program or an International Business Program at the Universidad Pompeu Fabra (UPF). The details: students take 4 or 5 courses in a semester; each course is recommended for 3 semester credits; a minimum 3.0 GPA is required (a lower GPA will be considered on a case by case basis); students also have the option to take content courses taught in Spanish.
The Hispanic and European Studies Program (HESP)
The Hispanic and European Studies Program (HESP) is the core of the UPF Education Abroad Program. The program aims to provide students with greater insight into the history and context of Europe, Spain and Catalonia while encouraging critical thinking.
Spanish language is not mandatory, although students are strongly encouraged to take it. The HESP program encourages experiential learning by including cultural activities and on-site classes in the curriculum. Most courses include faculty guided trips to museums and heritage sites, course-related walking tours, and sessions for guest speakers to share their expertise on a specific subject matter.

ESCI-UPF International Business Program
The ESCI-UPF International Business School is one of the few business schools in Spain that is specifically focused on international issues. The school was created in 1993 as a joint venture between UPF and the Catalan government to promote academic programs and research on the internationalization of Catalan firms. The school puts special emphasis on developing innovative programs and teaching practices, taking a multicultural approach to management, and consideration of social responsibility.
The program is jointly offered by the ESCI-UPF International Business School and the UPF Education Abroad Program. It is aimed at undergraduate students with a major or minor in business who wish to acquire insight into international business from a multicultural perspective, a better understanding of the successful management practices needed to compete in the global economy, and to improve their professional qualifications.
All students who complete the ESCI-UPF International Business Program will be awarded a joint certificate from the ESCI International Business School and the UPF Eduation Abroad Program.
The International Management course is mandatory. Students also take at least one of the following business program courses: International Finance, International Economics, Doing Business in Europe and Corporate Finance. Students can then choose their remaining two or three courses from the Spanish language courses, the HESP content courses, or the ESCI-UPF undergraduate course offerings.
