Summer weekends abroad might seem a little different than your average summer weekend at home with your family and friends. At home, it can easily and understandably be turned into a relaxed weekend, but while abroad, it’s so important to make the most of your time while you have the opportunity! This past weekend, I was lucky enough to have one of the best weekends ever.

It all started on Friday afternoon when my class got out at five, some of my friends had gone to Paris for the weekend so I wasn’t sure what exactly I was going to do. However, after a quick last-minute decision, my sister and I bought tickets to see Jersey Boys at Piccadilly Theater, and I’m fairly certain it was the best decision we made all day because it was a fantastic show!

Saturday, we had plans to attend Chesterton’s Polo in the Park at Hurlingham Park. I had ordered tickets through AIFS before I left for the trip, and I am beyond happy that I did; what an amazing experience! People from all over England came dressed immaculately to socialize and watch the teams and their horses battle against each other. It was rather dreamy. Plus, I think I found a new favorite sport, who knew!

On Sunday, I spent the day with other students on my program in the city of Brighton. We had wanted to visit a beach so we ordered train tickets at the beginning of the weekend, and we spent the day exploring the city and shore. The beaches here were a little different from the East coast beaches that I am used to; the beaches here had pebbles instead of sand, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Since it was only a short train ride away, we already decided that we would spend another day in Brighton with the sole intention of enjoying the city even more, and maybe even going further into the English Channel than just ankle deep!

However, what you do on weekends while abroad isn’t just what you do, it’s how you do it. As long as you do whatever it is you do with a positive attitude and a smile, anything you have planned will be an amazing time.
