The lovely people here at AIFS organized a private boat cruise on the river Thames. It was promised that there would be dancing, amazing views, and a night we would never forget. It delivered on every one of those promises and more, culminating in the best night of my adventure in London. Being able to see the city by night along the famous river Thames was breathtaking and surreal. Never had I thought I would be able to do something like that.
We had the boat all to ourselves so that all of the students could mingle together. There was a lot of excited picture taking as we passed landmarks such as Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, St. Paul’s Cathedral, and the Globe Theater. We got lucky and happened to have amazing weather for the boat cruise. And amazing weather is always a rarity in London: we were able to comfortably take pictures outside without the need for coat or of an umbrella.
Rest assured there were many a selfie stick used on this boat cruise as all of us battled to get the best pictures. Group shots, individual shots, and massive photobombs were all occurring. Whenever we got tired of taking pictures we would hit the dance floor and danced along to some of our favorite songs on the trip.
There were upbeat songs we all laughed and danced excitedly too, such as One Direction songs, as well as sentimental songs such as See You Again. At this point in the trip, many people were leaving in a week after completing two summer sessions. So, everyone was very sentimental as they could feel their time in London and with their friends running out.
It was a perfect night overall. And even though the boat cruise lasted three hours, it felt like it wasn’t long enough. I think we all could have spent the rest of our trip happily watching the scenery race past us on the River Thames. It was the highlight of my time in London thus far and a memory that I will look back fondly on forever.
