Three Weeks Deep in Salzburg, Austria

“We are on week three going on week four” has been sung endless amounts of times from students here in Salzburg, because the last couple of weeks most of our students have been on the Sound of Music tour. We visited so many of the filming sites, and took pictures in front of mountains and in the fields of flowers, pretending to be Julie Andrews: fully dressed in dirndls. So it’s safe to say students are embracing the culture.

Before I arrived here in Salzburg, I always hated guided tours and planned visits, but we have an amazing guide named Andreas who has planned trips for us to see the Hohenwerfen Fortress, a tour through the Bavarian mountains, the Sound of Music tours, as well as trips to Hallstatt and Munich, Germany; and he is still planning! I did not expect to have this many opportunities to see places I have only seen in pictures. It has eased the initial culture shock and home sickness too, because you spend time with the other students in your program, knowing they are going through the same thing that you are going though.

All together, I could not have picked a better place to study abroad. There is so much to see and do in such little time! It pushes you to get out everyday and try something new. Wherever you are, I encourage you to do the same!
