Maynooth is a little under the radar, but did you know its international students are the happiest in Europe, it’s under an hour to Dublin, and with its country charm and shades of green its the perfect summer destination to study abroad?

Here are four reasons to consider Maynooth this summer:

Best of Both Worlds

Experience the charm of the Irish countryside, while living less than an hour outside Dublin. Head into “the city” for concerts, theater, sporting events and more, and spend the rest of your time exploring places like the Burren, Glendalough, Cork and Killarney.

History

The National University of Ireland, Maynooth (NUIM) was founded in 1997 as part of university of the National University of Ireland. It is considered both Ireland’s youngest as well as second oldest university, having been formed from St. Patrick’s College, which was founded in 1795 and is today Ireland’s main Roman Catholic seminary.

Visit Conolly’s Folly and the Wonderful Barn, two, unintended, monuments to the famine of 1740-41. Or explore the Royal Canal, one of eastern Ireland’s two main canals, which runs through town and form part of a route that starts in Dublin and continues to the River Shannon.

Academics

With courses from Software Design to Creative Writing, NUIM has something for every student. Focus on Irish Studies, Business, Law and more. See all courses and course descriptions here on our website.

Happiest International Students

This year, Ireland was ranked the top place to study for international students, and NUIM in particular received the highest rating in Ireland. International students reported the highest satisfaction with their international study experience, and “Maynooth University received the Outstanding International Student Satisfaction Award in Ireland,” the highest rating and the only Irish university to do so.  Students were “particularly happy about the charming and lively campus, the close community of students, the friendliness of the teachers, and the small class sizes.”

Studyportals adds “Irish universities were particularly appreciated for their community atmospheres, innovative programmes, support structures for students, as well as their multicultural mix and vivid student life.”
