Finding the best vegetarian food in Barcelona isn’t as difficult as you may think. One of our study abroad student bloggers, Sabrina Medina, shares with us her experiences being a vegetarian in Barcelona and gives her tips on where to get the best vegetarian food.
‘I have been vegetarian for about eight years. Upon coming to Barcelona, I received advice to ‘start eating meat’ while in Barcelona. However, I am so glad that I ignored that advice. I have discovered some really good places from the Barceloneta area where I have been living. Here are some of best vegetarian food in Barcelona!
Brunch and Cake
The first meal of the day is the most important one, so start it off right with hitting up Brunch and Cake. The portion sizes are great and their plate arrangements are a piece of art. They have a great selection of food for carnivores and herbivores alike. The best part about Brunch and Cake is the fact that its menu is very healthy. They include as much fruit as possible in their plating which isn’t just appealing to the eye but also good for you. This really is some of the best vegetarian food for breakfast!
One of my absolute favorites spots to get the best vegetarian food in Barcelona is Rumanroll. Rumanroll is great for a lunch option since they tend to close before five. Their food varies from spaghetti to chow mein to veggie burgers. They have plenty of options for vegans and vegetarians. I suggest getting their vegan burger, the patty is a bright pink color. I was a bitsceptical at first when I saw the color of the patty but there is nothing to fear. One major bonus of Rumanroll is they allow take away, which if you live in Barcelona for long enough you know this is pretty rare.
Missing that good old L.A. Mexican food? Well I have the perfect spot for you and it’s called La Heladeria. This spot takes pride in being a vegan Mexican spot and really has some of the best vegetarian food in Barcelona. They have great deals throughout the week which is a plus. They serve all the favorites from tacos to burritos to three different types of nachos. And once you are done devouring your savory vegan burrito feel free to have a scoop of their unique flavors of vegan ice creams.
A great spot for dinner has to be Urban Dock. They are a burger joint with a few vegetarian options but definitely a must try. Not sure about your cheese preference but I am personally a huge fan of goat cheese. So after reading that their veggie burger had that I knew I had to try it. It is quite possibly one of the best veggie burger I have ever tried. Pair that with a nice salad and you are good. Or if you’re not big on salads then switch it for their patatas bravas. Their bravas sauce on these bad boys are one of the best ones I have came across while in Barcelona.
There you have it just a few of the many delicious vegan/ vegetarian options there are in the Barceloneta area. But don’t just take my word for it, go out and try it for yourself. Or go find some for your own. Exploring the city and finding your new favorite spots are all apart of the experience.
