The city boasts renowned nightlife, parks, museums and other cultural attractions, mixing the verve and bustle of a thriving capital city with the famed, laid-back Spanish lifestyle—seamlessly.

With AIFS, you’ll study at a top-tier university with support and resources to help you every step of the way. Our comprehensive program fee includes tuition, housing and a meal plan, excursions and day trips, insurance and emergency assistance, cultural and social activities, an on-site Resident Director and more.

You’ll enjoy travel opportunities—included in your program fee—to deepen your connection with the history, culture and beauty of Spain. You’ll enjoy day trips to El Escorial, Segovia and Toledo. A 3-day excursion to Granada in the province of Andalucía will expand your appreciation of Spain’s diverse heritage and natural beauty.

Optional excursions include a 3-day trip, to Tangier and Tetouan, Morocco, to add international flavor to your semester abroad. Plus, a 2-night layover tour of London en route to Madrid is included if you choose the AIFS Flight Package.

Choose one of four available program options, plus an optional Early Start Program to get the most out of your time living in Madrid:

Hispanic Studies (all courses taught in Spanish)*
  • Focus your studies in Spanish language and culture taking courses in language, grammar, literature, art, history, political science and Spanish society.
  • No previous knowledge of Spanish is required. Courses are available at levels from beginner to advanced.
  • Earn up to 15 credits.
Spanish Plus (courses taught in Spanish and English)*
  • Combine learning Spanish from beginner to advanced level instruction with courses taught in English in degree subjects including Business and Marketing; Art and Architecture; Culture and History; International Relations and European Studies; Literature; and Gender Studies.
  • No previous knowledge of Spanish is required.
  • Earn up to 15 credits.
Integrated Studies with Spaniards
  • Join Spanish students taking courses in Social Sciences; Communication Sciences; Polytechnic School; or Arts and Letters—all taught in Spanish.
  • An advanced level of Spanish knowledge is required (at least 5 semesters of college level Spanish).
  • Earn up to 18 credits.
Internship and Spanish Language*
  • Combine Spanish language study with an internship placement for 3-credits in a variety of fields.
  • A minimum intermediate – high intermediate level of Spanish knowledge is required.
  • Earn up to 15 credits.
*Optional Early Start Program – Intensive Spanish Course ($1,495)
  • Prepare for the semester ahead with a course focused on Spanish grammar, conversation and culture.
  • Earn up to 6 credits over 4 weeks adjusting to life in Spain.
  • Housing in a homestay or apartment is included
