This semester, Jon Recchia is studying in London with Illinois Wesleyan University. To remember his semester abroad, Jon is vlogging – and blogging – about his experiences studying on an AIFS Customized Faculty Led program. So far, Jon has been making weekly vlogs of his time here. Week 10: The Amsterdam Experience
My good friend and flatmate Ian hopped a coach to Amsterdam for a long weekend. We did many of the notable highlights the city has to offer, including a visit to the Anne Frank House and Vincent Van Gogh Museum. We also ate in Amsterdam Foodhallen, road bikes along the canals, and walked through the Heineken Brewery.
Week 11: You’ll Never Walk Alone
This week my mom came to town! Spent a day together in London capping off the night taking in a performance of Les Miserables. We then went to Liverpool. While there, we checked out the house my grandpa used to live in, went to a Liverpool football match at Anfield, and took the Beatles Magical Mystery Tour
Week 12: Thanksgiving in Prague
I got to spend Thanksgiving in Prague! We ate a lot of food, drank the city’s world famous, and took in many of the breathtaking sights. We walked along Charles Bridge, took panoramas in front of the Prague Castle, and watched the iconic Astronomical Clock do its thing!
Week 13: Family Reunion in Wales
This week I headed to Wales for a very special trip. In and around Cardiff and Swansea, I have a bunch of family on my mom’s side that I have never met in my life. Throughout the long weekend, I conversed with some amazing people, they brought me to many of the breathtaking sights Wales has to offer, and had a family reunion!
Week 14: Christmas in London
I did a lot in my last full weekend in London. I visited the Emirates stadium for an Arsenal football match, perused Christmas markets in Leicester Square and Southbank for some last minute Christmas shopping, and saw Christian Slater live in the popular stage production of Glengarry Glen Ross.
