Are you interested in LGBTQ+ history and culture? Are you also looking for an unforgettable way to spend your summer? Our LGBTQ+ in the UK: Pride and Prejudice summer study abroad program could be exactly what you’re looking for. Here are a few perks of AIFS’ unique summer study abroad program, LGBTQ+ in the U.K.: Pride and Prejudice:
It takes place in two different countries.
Why pick one country to study abroad in this summer when you can travel to multiple? Our LGBTQ+ in the U.K. program starts off in London, England and includes a 5-day visit to Germany’s capital city, Berlin.
You’ll study a current and important topic.
Although the LGBTQ+ community has suffused the political and cultural climate of the U.K., they have also been the target of widespread discrimination and exclusion. Our 3-credit program gives students a glimpse at LGBTQ+ history and culture through a range of relevant topics – from Oscar Wilde to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. While this course focuses on the U.K., the issues studied are relevant throughout the world.
It’s a short-term program.
If you want to study abroad but aren’t sure if you can commit to a lengthy program, you’ll love the short length of our LGBTQ+ in the U.K. program. This summer study abroad program lasts for just under a month, which is ideal for students who are involved on campus or get homesick easily. Though short-term, it’s still long enough for you to fully experience life abroad.
It includes exciting field trips and excursions.
This summer study abroad program may be short-term, but it certainly isn’t short on exciting trips and activities. Classroom based lessons are combined with field trips, cultural activities, and excursions across London and Berlin. In London, you’ll celebrate at the Pride Parade, visit Gay’s the Word bookstore, and take a trip to the U.K.’s “gay capital,” Brighton. Then, you’ll explore Berlin’s queer history and visit the Schwules Museum, take a tour of the historical center, meet with the Lesbian and Gay Association Berlin Brandenberg, and more.
We’ll handle the planning for you.
Your study abroad experience should be everything but stressful – and we’re here to help make it hassle free.
The LGBTQ+ in the U.K. program fee includes: your tuition, excursions and activities, housing, some meals, transportation between locations, your flight from London to Berlin, insurance, a pre-departure handbook, and ongoing support the entire way. Plus, we’ll arrange your airfare to and from the U.S. when you sign up for our optional flight package.
