The City of Lights, home to thousands of years of history and hundreds of attractions, is truly incomparable. But if you’re a college student balling on a budget and want to take advantage of all the free things, a trip to Paris might seem out of the question… until now! Contrary to popular belief, admission to many of Paris’ world-renowned sights won’t cost you a dime. If you thought it’d be too pricy to study abroad in this stylish city, this post might have you thinking again.

These are 10 of our favorite free things to do in Paris (yes, free!):

1. Arc de Triomphe

On the first Sunday of the month, admission to the top of the Arc de Triomphe is free. This seasonal deal is offered from January 1st to March 31st, and from November 1st to December 31st. To that we say: more reason to study abroad in Paris for your fall or spring semester!

2. Marché aux Puces de St-Ouen

This expansive flea market is one of the largest in the world and hosts thousands of merchants, each with unique antiques and second-hand products. Even if you’re not looking to make a purchase, it’s worth a stop just to window shop.

3. Eiffel Tower from Parc du Champ

Although you’ll need to purchase a ticket to get to the top of the Eiffel Tower, there’s no price for sitting underneath! Pack a picnic lunch and a blanket, kick back at the Parc du Champ, and enjoy close up views of one of the world’s most recognizable attractions – free of charge.

4. Louvre Museum

Surprised that the legendary Louvre Museum is on our list of free attractions? It’s true – if you visit the Louvre on a Friday night after 6:00 PM or visit on the first Sunday of the month between October and March, you’ll enjoy free admission to admire some of the world’s most famous works of art.

5. Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris

The magnificent Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris is one of Paris’ most popular attractions. A stop here won’t break the bank either; although there’s an option to buy a ticket for the crypt, entrance to the Basilica is free.

6. Parc des Buttes-Chaumont

Located in northeastern Paris, this 61-acre park is absolutely beautiful. Though the park is Paris’ steepest, the entrance fee isn’t steep at all – it’s totally free to explore the Parc des Buttes-Chaumont’s waterfalls and superlative views!

7. Père Lachaise Cemetery

Brave enough to explore a haunted location? The Père Lachaise is the world’s most visited cemetery. While you walk through, see if you recognize the famous names on some of the 70,000 tombs – including Oscar Wilde and Jim Morrison.

8. Paris Museum of Modern Art

The Paris Museum of Modern Art, founded in the 1960s, showcases about 13,000 works of art. With free admission to the museum’s permanent collection year-round, a trip here is an awesome way to spend a rainy afternoon.

9. Parc Monceau

A favorite painting spot for Monet and other celebrated artists, Parc Monceau is strikingly charming and packed with history. If you’re interested in art history, you’ll certainly find inspiration at this small Parisian park.

10. The Tuileries Garden

En-route to the Louvre, the Jardin des Tuileries is a favorite pitstop for tourists and locals alike. Paris’ oldest public park, its regal style is reminiscent of the gardens of Versailles. While in Paris, a stroll through these gardens is a must for anyone seeking a free and unforgettable attraction.
