Beautiful mountainside town in Austria

Yearning to study abroad or travel as a college student?

Here are five cities to visit in Austria if you have a serious case of wanderlust.

1. Salzburg, Austria

The home of Mozart and Sound of Music and so so much more! Here you can do everything and anything! Some items to check off your bucket list in Salzburg are:

  1. Go to the top of Untersberg to see an outrageous panoramic view
  2. Walk around the fortress area
  3. See all the spots where they filmed Sound of Music, like Mirabell Gardens and Hellbrunn
  4. Bop around the Old City to window shop

PS: There are infinite possibilities to eat and drink in Salzburg, as well.

2. Innsbruck, Austria

Of the many beautiful cities to visit in Austria, this one is completely surrounded by gorgeous snow-capped mountains. Here you can either hike the mountains surrounding the city, tool around the city center area, or even make your way to the famous Swavorski museum that’s a little outside of town! This Olympic town will not disappoint.

3. Hallstatt, Austria

The famous picturesque view of Hallstatt’s lake and church is even better in person. Hike all the way up to the lookout point and take a tour of the oldest salt mine in Europe (there are even slides involved!) The Dachstein ice caves are also just a short drive away.

4. Vienna, Austria

In the biggest city in Austria, you will find all the museums and churches your heart desires: the Albertina, the fine art museum, the moving Freud museum — you will have so many to choose from! Don’t forget to stop at the Scholbrunn Palace and grab a melange at the café in the backyard at the top!

5. Linz, Austria

This town was a spontaneous stop for me and surprisingly great! Walk through the city center and explore the tiny shops or sit by the river on a nice day. There are great museums you can go to or if you’d rather be outside, you can hike the rolling hills to see an overlook of the city as well!
