Escaping to an island for a semester of school sounds like a dream, and that is why Australia is such a perfect option for adventurous souls looking for a warm climate and beautiful sites. Just because you may be on an island, however, does not mean you are stuck on it. People may not know how easy and cheap it is to travel from Australia to surrounding islands and the continent of Asia.
Here are a few spots to keep in mind for trips from Australia.
1. Fiji
If you are all about fun in the sun, Fiji is the place to be. With its cheap flights and accommodation, you will be living like royalty. The outer islands of Fiji offer picture-perfect beaches and snorkeling spots. Plus, its residents will make you feel welcome and right at home as they bring you into their culture.
PS: Did you know that AIFS programs in Perth, Australia and Wellington, New Zealand include an optional Pacific Studies program in Fiji?
2. Thailand
First and foremost, Thailand is perfect for a student budget. A delicious Thai meal can be bought for less than $5 and accommodation can be found for less than $20 per night. Secondly, it has pristine beaches with clear water and beautiful marine life that is perfect for a beach getaway. If the beach is not your priority, Thailand offers rich history, green, lush forests and beautiful Buddhist landmarks that will leave you awestruck.
3. Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia
While you do not have to visit all of these countries, there are many travel groups that can take you on an affordable trip to all three in one vacation. Whether you are exploring city market streets filled with the aroma of spices, trekking through the thick forest to a mountainside village or kayaking through blue lagoons, there are beautiful sites to see throughout all these countries.
Each of these destinations have something for everyone, and with their affordable prices, these trips cannot be beat and are only a plane ride away. Of course, you should partake in these once you’ve experienced all you can out of the gorgeous continent of Australia!
